I'm an 80s kid whose been a gamer most of his life. I started out with the Atari 2600 & 5200 (I had the 2600 adapter for the 5200), then my dad got a Sega Master System (which I regret not appreciating more at the time), and then I got the NES Power Set for Christmas in 1988 (complete with Power Pad and the amazing three-in-one pack in cart with Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt and World Class Track Meet).
By 1989 I was a full on gamer, and I vividly remember the hype leading up to the release of Super Mario Bros 3, including the movie The Wizard where Mario 3 was debuted. I played a ton of NES and I anxiously poured over the content in video game magazines like Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM), leading up to the launch of the Super Nintendo, and more importantly, the launch of Super Mario World.
Eventually I also got a Sega Genesis and I loved Sega's exclusive classics such as Sonic, Toe Jam & Earl, Streets of Rage, and Road Rash. I also really enjoyed Sega's excellent marketing and the console wars of the 90s. Sega had some of the best commercials, and even though I knew the SNES was superior, I still enjoyed seeing Sega give Nintendo a run for their money.
Today I game across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC, and have more games in my backlog than I'll ever have time to play.
I've followed gaming trends and news for as long as I can remember, even through periods of my life where I wasn't regularly playing, and I've seen practically every major console war, leading companies come and go, and many vapor-ware promises never materialize.
I'm excited to share my perspectives from a life-time of gaming, and some of the cool new stuff I'm playing.
