Introducing the Gamatroid Blog! (Yet Again!)

For anyone who's been following my content over the years, you'll probably notice that this is like my third attempt at a Gamatroid-branded gaming blog.

My first blog (gamatroid.com) was hosted by Wordpress.com, and while I liked some parts of their platform, ultimately I found the tools pretty limiting, the cost was more than I wanted to pay (into perpetuity), and their storage was too limited since I like including lots of images in my stories.

I then set out to find a platform that was a better place for image hosting, and landed on using Squarespace. Instead of a Gamatroid-branded blog, I attempted to start an independently named gaming blog: Electronic Gamers. I got a little ways down the road in building out content, and (once again) realized that I would be paying the platform fees as long as I wanted the site to be up and visible (seemingly forever) and that wasn't something I was willing to do (especially not for $25 per month).

So I scrapped Electronic Gamers and moved over to Ko-fi since you can write blogs on their platform, and include images, and seemingly the storage is endless and there is no cost. While that seemed to mostly fulfill my desired features, I ultimately didn't enjoy the way it looked and I think its confusing for users since not too many people write articles and blogs directly on Ko-fi (I do plan to use it in the future for updates and tipping, but that's about it).

Then, for a time, I gave up on trying to write a blog and just focused on other gaming content, like TikTok and YouTube. But eventually the writing urge struck again and I decided to launch a new blog focused on a specific niche: the TurboGrafx-16.

Since I didn't want to spend any money on platform fees, I started looking for a new blogging platform. I checked out several, but eventually landed on Google's Blogger, since it kind of had a bare-bones old-school approach to it, and that seemed perfect for the type of blog I was creating.

At this time, I've been writing for my Turbo Times (a TurboGrafx-16 fanzine) blog for several months, and I've really enjoyed the experience on Blogger.

Then, of course, I developed a desire to write about more topics, and I didn't want to distort the mission and vision for Turbo Times, so I decided to start a new blog on Blogger (which is really easy) to cover more general gaming topics, once again under the Gamatroid brand.

And that brings us to this moment. Gamatroid Gaming is my new blog to cover general gaming content, including retro and modern, and if I ever get around to trying my hand at game development or other gaming related topics, I'll probably share that as well.

I hope you enjoy the content I'll be creating, and if you would like to help support my efforts, you can always tip me on Ko-fi (but of course you certainly don't have to).

You can contact me with any comments, feedback, or suggestions, but I suggest you reach out to me on either Bluesky or Twitter(X), so I actually see your comments in a timely manner.

Until next time...
